Owner and MD of the African Travel Specialists, Richard Ruskin, guides his favourite event of the year - the annual Wildebeest Migration. Having guided during the Migration every year for the last 23 years, Richard can attest to it being one of the most exciting events in the world. This safari visits some of the best areas for game viewing such as Samburu National Reserve, Lake Elmentaita, Ngorongoro Crater, Serengeti and the jewel in Africa’s crown, the Masai Mara – home to the Migration at this time of year. Accommodation comprises of tented camps, lodges and hotels. This is a wonderful way to see the wildebeest migration, as well as amazing wildlife and birds, and all in the care of specialist safari guide Richard Ruskin.

DAY 1: ARRIVE NAIROBI
On arrival at Nairobi’s International Airport,
you will be met by Richard Ruskin and transferred to FAIRMONT THE NORFOLK HOTEL for two nights.

DAY 2: NAIROBI
After breakfast you will be taken on a tour of the David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum and the Giraffe Centre. In the evening enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (B, L, D)

DAY 3: NAIROBI – LAKE ELEMENTAITA
This morning you will be met at the hotel reception and begin your safari with a drive to Lake Elementaita, located in Kenya’s Great Rift Valley. The next two nights will be spent at LAKE ELEMENTAITA SERENA CAMP. (B, L, D)

DAY 4: LAKE ELEMENTAITA
Today you will be taken on morning and afternoon game drives. (B, L, D)

DAY 5: LAKE ELEMENTAITA – SAMBURU
This morning you will travel by road to Samburu. The next two nights will be spent at SAMBURU INTREPIDS. (B, L, D)

DAY 6: SAMBURU
After breakfast, you will be taken on morning and afternoon game drives in Samburu National Reserve. It is here you will be able to see the ‘Special 5’ – the Reticulated Giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Somali Ostrich, gerenuk and Beisa Oryx, as well as other varieties of game, including lion and leopard. DAY 7: SAMBURU – ARUSHA
This morning, you will be taken to Samburu Airstrip for your flight to Kilimanjaro Airport. Overnight at FOUR POINTS SHERATON ARUSHA. (B)

DAY 8: ARUSHA – MAKUYUNI NGORONGORO
After breakfast, you will be driven to Makuyuni Wildlife Park for a game drive. Afterwards, you will continue to Ngorongoro Crater. On the way, you will have an opportunity to stop at the African Galleria for lunch – one of the best places to buy local arts and crafts. On arrival, check in to LIONS PAW CAMP for your two-night stay. (B, L, D)

DAY 9: NGORONGORO CRATER
Today you will be taken into the crater, for an almost full day safari, with picnic lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the only ‘living’ caldera in the world and is home to thousands of animals that live within the crater walls. (B, L, D)

DAYS 10: NGORONGORO CRATER – SERENGETI
After breakfast, travel by road to the Serengeti National Park. It is a long drive but many clients say it is one of the highlights. Two nights at LAHIA TENTED LODGE, strategically placed atop a hill overlooking the Serengeti Plains. (B, L, D)

DAY 11: SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK
Today, you will be taken on morning and afternoon game drives. Lion, leopard and cheetah sightings are common, as well as ostrich, hyena, elephant, buffalo, zebra and giraffe. (B, L, D)

DAY 12: SERENGETI – MAASAI MARA
This morning you will be transferred to the Grumeti airstrip for your light aircraft flight to the Maasai Mara. You will spend the next three nights at KICHWA TEMBO TENTED CAMP. (B, L, D)

DAY 13: MAASAI MARA
Spend the next two days in the Maasai Mara game viewing, with the option of adding a balloon safari (additional cost). It is here that the Wildebeest Migration should be in full swing, providing the opportunities to see them massing, as well as crossing the Mara River. (B, L, D)

DAY 15: MAASAI MARA – NAIROBI
After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airstrip for your scheduled flight to Nairobi Wilson Airport. On arrival you will be transferred back to FAIRMONT THE NORFOLK HOTEL for your overnight stay and a farewell dinner. (B, D)

DAY 16: DEPART NAIROBI
This morning you will be transferred to Nairobi Airport for your onward flight. (B)

Terms & Conditions

Our professional services are available for the purchase of any type of travel, however the following charges apply:

1. Administration Planning Service

Should a detailed itinerary/quote be requested a non-refundable planning fee will be charged per itinerary, as per the Schedule of Fees, prior to each itinerary being prepared.

2. Itinerary/Reservation Cancellation

The itinerary/reservation deposit is payable at the time the reservation is requested and is in addition to any deposit fees charged by the tour operator/airline or other travel supplier. The itinerary/reservation deposit is non-refundable BUT if you proceed with the booking, the amount of the itinerary/reservation deposit will be credited against the final amount payable. If you do not proceed with or subsequently cancel the booking, the itinerary/reservation deposit is non-refundable and is in addition to cancellation fees imposed by travel principals and Southside World Travel.

3. Amendments

Any changes made to a confirmed, deposited or finalised booking prior to departure will attract an amendment fee as per the Schedule of Fees, plus any communications costs incurred in securing further confirmations.

4. Visa, Re-entry Permits etc.

A fee, as detailed in the Schedule of Fees, inclusive of registration postage and/or courier fees is payable in addition to any Government and/or Consular fees.

5. Extraordinary Costs

In the unlikely event we are unable to meet your requirements through our normal booking process or you request a late booking which requires urgent attention, we will let you know. If you wish us to continue with the booking any additional costs as notified to you, such as telephone and other communication expenses, courier charges, any associated bank costs for urgent remittance of funds, etc. will be payable by the client.

6. Insurance

We may ask you to sign a declaration if you do not accept our recommendation that you affect travel insurance. Travel insurance provides cover when the premium is paid and the policy issued, and so should be taken out as soon as any deposit or payment is made.

In the event that you elect to take out insurance with another provider (not supplied by us), the following fees will apply when providing documentation for any claim:

Administration fee for Insurance

Domestic: from $75.00 per person

Asia Pacific: from $110.00 per person

International from $150.00 per person*

7. GST Provision

If a goods and services tax (GST) or similar tax is or becomes payable in respect of any supply made to you under this agreement, then in addition to the fee payable, you must pay the amount of GST payable in respect of that fee. The GST is payable at the same time and in the same manner as the fee or at such later time as Southside World Travel may request.

Payment

Our preferred method of payment is by direct deposit or credit card. We use TravelPay to process all credit and debit card transactions.

Payment by credit card/debit cards to suppliers MAY incur a surcharge between 1.0% and 3.0% (ask your consultant for details). Credit card payments made to Southside World Travel (via Travelpay) will incur a surcharge as follows:

- Mastercard/Debit Card - 1.4%
- Visa Card/Debit Card - 1.6%
- Amex Card - 2.2%

*Credit Card/Debit Cards refunds require 5 x business working days to process.

*Personal cheques take 5 x business working days to clear.

Responsibility Clause

All coupons, vouchers, receipts and tickets are issued subject to the terms and conditions specified by the suppliers. By accepting the coupon, vouchers, tickets and utilizing our services, you agree that, apart from certain rights you have under the Trade Practices Act, neither Southside World Travel nor any subsidiary company or representative, shall be liable for any loss, injury or damage to you or your belongings or otherwise arising in any way of our services to you.
